Useful Home Selling Tips

Whether it’s a seller's or a buyer's market, most sellers want their property to sell quickly. Under the best of circumstances it is inconvenient to sell a home – especially one that you are living in. An experienced REALTOR® can assist in helping you to view your home through a potential buyer’s eyes.

Here are a few tips to make your home more attractive to a potential buyer:

Clean out closets, pick up clutter and pare down what’s inside. This includes family photos and mementos. Pared-down surroundings can help potential buyers better envision themselves and their family in the house.
Pack away items and special collections usually displayed in cabinets and hutches, and remove excess furniture.
Don’t forget to keep the house clean every minute it’s on the market. This takes great effort, but the buyer may need to see it in the next five minutes and you’ll be prepared.
Check A/C and heating systems. A checkup from your regular service person can reduce potential problems at inspection time.
Fix leaky faucets, toilets, and faulty lights.
Paint (or touch up) exterior and repair screens and windows. Many buyers make their purchasing decision on appearance when they drive up to the house.
Make sure landscaping is spruced up – no dead or untrimmed trees and shrubs. Lawn mowed and edged. Colorful seasonal flowers always help.
If you have a pool, make sure it is crystal clear.
Keep pets out of the way during showings.
Tone down your creativity. Even though it’s your home and expresses your personality, buyers need a neutral palate in order to envision themselves in the house.
